Stop the Bleed Community Training
Stop the Bleed community training empowers individuals with the skills to save a life in a bleeding emergency. Through hands-on instruction, participants learn how to identify severe bleeding and apply effective bleeding-control techniques. This free course is open to students, staff, and community members and requires no prior medical training. The focus is on readiness, confidence, and practical skills that can make a critical difference before professional help arrives. Register for one of our FREE classes offered weekly on Wednesday evenings (No prior medical training needed).
Instructor Bios:
LeAnn Contapay, BSN, RN, PHN, SANE-A
Coordinator, MPC Student Health Services
LeAnn Contapay is a public health nurse from Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula
who serves as the Coordinator of Student Health Services at Monterey Peninsula College,
where she is dedicated to supporting the health and well-being of students and the
campus community. She brings together clinical experience, program leadership, and
community outreach to create responsive, student-centered care. A certified Stop the
Bleed Instructor through the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, she
has experience in emergency response and injury assessment. As a Sexual Assault Nurse
Examiner, her work is grounded in trauma-informed, equity-centered practices that
prioritize safety, dignity, and compassion. She also serves as a task supervisor and
preceptor for Cal State Monterey Bay, mentoring social work and nursing student interns,
helping to prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Alfred Lopez-Esparza, MS
Mental Health & Wellness Specialist, MPC Student Health Services
Alfred brings a powerful combination of field experience and scientific expertise
to this training. As a former EMT, he has firsthand experience responding to emergencies
when seconds matter. He later earned a master’s degree in Microbiology and Immunology,
expanding his knowledge of infectious disease and the science behind trauma and recovery.
With a lifelong commitment to both healthcare and community college education, Alfred
is passionate about empowering others through knowledge. He looks forward to helping
you build practical, lifesaving skills you can carry into your communities.

Phlebotomy Technician Training
Launch your healthcare career with our Phlebotomy Technician Training Program! In this hands-on course, you’ll learn the essential skills needed to collect blood samples safely and efficiently. From mastering proper venipuncture techniques to understanding lab procedures and patient care, you'll be prepared for real-world challenges in clinical settings. With expert instruction and practical experience, this program will equip you with the confidence and skills to succeed as a certified phlebotomist. The Phlebotomy Technician Training program is an accelerated training course designed to combine classroom instruction with hands-on training in a medical laboratory to help you develop the highly technical skill of blood withdrawal.
Upon successful completion of the classroom training, students will take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) exam and be required to pass a drug and background screen prior to being placed in the externship portion of the program. Externship information:
- Students must complete a 40-hour externship.
- Externships are scheduled for one week, Monday-Friday (no nights or weekends).
- Students will need to be available from 5 AM - 6 PM for that week only (specific schedule time frame is determined by each externship site).
Once a student has successfully completed all program requirements, they are eligible to apply for the State of California CPT-1 License.

A Program That Delivers
Refund & Credit Policy:
The MPC Continuing and Professional Education program reserves the right to cancel a class due to low enrollment. Students in classes that are cancelled by Continuing and Professional Education will be offered a full refund or a credit to their registration account.
Refund Policy for Professional Training/Healthcare Training Classes:
Refund requests will be honored if they are received at least 14 business days prior to the beginning of the class. There is a 10% service fee, subject to a $5 minimum. Students who withdraw after the first class meeting are no longer eligible for a refund, however students may request a credit that may be applied to a future class offering. *Please note, refunds and credits are not granted if a student has failed or was dropped from a training program for failure to meet program requirements.
