Major Requirements

The Counseling Department provides Major Requirements Worksheets which list the requirements for certificate of achievement and associate degree programs. Certificate of training programs and their requirements, however, are listed within the respective academic department's webpage.

NOTE: These worksheets are for advising purposes only; refer to the official catalog for complete program information, and consult with a counselor for guidance.

The Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT), which includes the AA-T and AS-T degrees, is designed for students planning to complete a bachelor's degree in a related major at a CSU campus. While earning an AA-T or AS-T guarantees admission to the CSU system, it does not guarantee admission to a specific campus or major. Graduation requirements include completing a major and fulfilling the Cal-GETC pattern. Campus-specific major requirements can be found on assist.org. It is highly recommended that students work closely with a counselor to develop a transfer plan.

ADT MAJOR REQUIREMENTS WORKSHEETS

Associate Degrees (AA/AS/AS-UCT) & Certificates of Achievement

The awarding of Certificates of Achievement and Associate Degrees (AA/AS) recognizes a student's successful completion of a major or program of study. For an associate degree, students may choose from two General Education patterns: Monterey Peninsula College General Education, or Cal-GETC. A GE pattern is not required for a Certificate of Achievement. Note: the Chemistry AS-UCT and Physics AS-UCT are UC transfer degrees under the UC Transfer Pathway (UCTP) program. These degrees require Cal-GETC, with completion of two additional Arts/Humanities and Social/Behavioral Science courses after transfer. The degrees are accepted by all nine UCs, but admission and major requirements vary by campus. Consult a counselor for guidance.

At MPC, general education is necessary for associate degree seekers and those looking to transfer to a UC or CSU. Depending on your major and transfer goals, there are two patterns to choose from. If you are completing a certificate, GE classes are not required. Students with a high-unit major such as biology and engineering or who are interested in a private or out-of-state institution should meet with a counselor to discuss options. Learn more about the two GE pathways below. If you are interested in transferring to private or out-of-state institutions, please schedule a counseling appointment.

MPC GE Requirements

This pattern is for students seeking a non-transfer AA/AS degree. Our curriculum provides a well-rounded education while focusing on your academic and career goals. Explore how this pattern can fit into your educational journey.

Cal-GETC Requirements

The California General Education Transfer Curriculum (Cal-GETC) pattern fulfills the lower-division general education requirements for both the California State University (CSU) and the University of California (UC) systems. This a great option for students who want to transfer to either system, a private or out-of-state college or university.

Cal-GETC General Education Certification

Cal-GETC (California General Education Transfer Curriculum) certification verifies that a student has completed all lower-division general education requirements for the UC or CSU. Certification is reported on your official transcript. Partial certification is not available. Consult with an MPC counselor for guidance.
