the college’s budget, and ensuring that the educational mission of the college is

The five members of the Governing Board are each elected by residents of their respective trustee areas for four-year terms. The student trustee is selected annually as part of the Associated Students Elections.

The Governing Board of the Monterey Peninsula Community College District adopts
policies to govern the District in compliance with laws. Policies define goals and
delegate authority to the Superintendent/President. Administrative procedures implement
policies, detailing operations and accountability, and are developed collaboratively
without requiring Board approval. Laws and agreements prevail.
Governing Board Goals
- Develop, prioritize, and support Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, Anti-Racism, and Accessibility (IDEAA) policies and practices throughout the District.
- Prioritize and support improving student access and success throughout the District.
- Provide students and employees with a safe, innovative, inclusive, and effective learning and working environment.
- Collaborate effectively to support a positive, inclusive, and supportive campus climate.
- Advocate at the local, state, and national levels for policies that support the fiscal health and sustainability of the District.
- Develop and support an effective and collaborative working relationship with the Superintendent/President.
- Ensure the District develops strong relationships in all Trustee areas and regional communities.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to increase understanding of trustee roles and responsibilities and improve its effectiveness.

Who’s My Trustee?
There are five trustee areas within the Monterey Peninsula Community College District.
Following each U.S. Census, trustee area boundaries are evaluated to ensure equal
population distribution within the allowed 10% deviation. Any changes approved by
the trustees are submitted to the U.S. Department of Justice for preclearance, as
required by the U.S. Voting Rights Act.
